Selling single sessions keeps a trainer busy and broke: income drops whenever a client cancels, and every client is a new sale every week. Packages fix that. They sell a commitment, smooth out income and make the client's decision simpler. Here is how to build them.
Types of personal training packages
Session packs
A set number of sessions, such as 10 or 20, paid up front and used within a set time. Easy to understand and a good entry point. The risk: income is lumpy and clients drift away when the pack runs out.
Monthly plans
A fixed number of sessions a month, or a month of coaching, billed every month. Steadier income and longer client relationships, and the client stops counting sessions.
Online coaching tiers
Monthly coaching delivered through an app: a program, nutrition, check-ins and messaging. Tiers usually differ by check-in frequency, response time and extras such as calls.
Hybrid
A few in-person sessions a month plus online programming and check-ins between them. Good for clients who want some hands-on coaching but can't afford it every session.
Programs with an end date
A set length with a goal: a 12-week fat loss program, a contest prep, a return-to-training block after an injury has healed. They are easy to market because the result and the date are part of the offer.
Example package menus
These show structure, not prices. Your prices should come from your own numbers, covered in the next section.

How to price each package
1. Work out your base number
Income you want plus monthly costs, divided by the number of clients your hours can carry. That number depends on how many minutes a client takes per week, so it is different for each tier. The free online coaching price calculator does the arithmetic.
2. Price each tier by the time it takes
A premium tier with a weekly call might take twice the time of the middle tier. If so, it should cost about twice as much, or you are paying clients to buy it.
3. Check it against your market
Then check it against what your clients can pay. If the number your time needs is more than your clients will pay, the answer is usually to cut the time each client takes, change who you sell to, or change the offer, not to work for less. Read our guide to online coaching pricing.
Naming and presenting packages
- Name packages by outcome or level, not by number of sessions.
- List what is included in plain words: how many check-ins, how fast you reply, what the client gets.
- Mark the one most clients should choose.
- Show the price. A hidden price can make people leave instead of asking.
- Say what happens at the end: renews monthly, or ends on a date.
Mistakes to avoid
- Too many options, which makes clients compare rather than buy.
- A premium tier that costs more but takes much more time than it pays for.
- Deep discounts on long packages that cut the price of your hour.
- Unlimited messaging with no stated response time.
- No written terms on cancellations and refunds. See what to put in a personal trainer contract.
Delivering packages without drowning in admin
A tier is a promise: this many check-ins, replies within this time. Keeping it across a full roster is what software is for. In CoachPilot you set a check-in schedule per client, so a weekly-tier client and a monthly-tier client each get the right cadence automatically. The workout and meal planners and messaging sit in the same app.
The short version
Offer two or three packages, from an entry option to a premium one. Price each from the time it takes, using your income goal and costs, then check it against your market. Name them by outcome, list what is included, show the price, and put cancellations in writing.
